Al Capriolo

Warm and welcoming in a classic Venetian style, Locanda al Capriolo greets guests the moment they step inside. Nestled in the Cansiglio forest, it is located in Pian Osteria—the last Cimbrian village—which was founded in 1887 by brothers Eugenio and Cristiano Azzalini, together with their cousin Pompeo Azzalini. Situated at the crossroads of three valleys, the village grew in importance, eventually boasting around a hundred inhabitants, an inn, two taverns, and a grocery store. A charming fireplace warms the dining room: on winter days when temperatures on the Cansiglio plateau drop below freezing, Locanda al Capriolo has offered a cozy refuge since the 19th century, when it first served as an inn for the Cimbrian community. The dining room, which seats about thirty people, serves simple yet refined Venetian dishes. Options range from roe deer tagliatelle (the inn's specialty) to "Pastin" (a traditional Belluno dish made of coarsely ground pork and beef—similar to sausage—seasoned with salt and spices), as well as roe deer with polenta and mushrooms, cooked cheese, and more, all rounded off with homemade desserts. You can even purchase traditional Cansiglio products in a corner of the inn—just ask the host! The inn also offers overnight accommodation in simple yet comfortable rooms.
